Our vacation was great... ...the Catalonia Bavaro in Punta Cana was wonderful - great (huge) beach, fabulous staff, awesome pool, fun activities, cocktails are a little weird (wine is kind of green) and a frozen mud slide is generally more like a mai tai (but that's very common in the Dominican) a $5 tip to the bartender on the first day helps a lot to find the Bailey's and other "call" - "top shelf" liquors. Food is good, massive buffets require a little searching for the things you like, but we're used to that and found plenty to eat One Breakfast Buffet 6:30 am - 11 am Two Lunch Buffets 12 - 2:30 and 12:30 - 4:00 Poolside: Hot Dogs, hamburgers, chicken, nachos and soft serve ice cream all day 11 am - 6 pm One dinner Buffet 5pm - 10 pm And four a la carte restaurants: 5:30 - 10 pm reservations required, for a 7 night stay you are entitled to 1 visit to each of the following El Paso - Mexican La Parisenne - French Mikado - Japanese La Gondola- Italian ...the French was the best of the bunch, but all food definitely is a derivative of a Spanish dish - some folks loved the Japanese - (beni hanna concept) but working in NYC we are probably snobs about this stuff!! :) it was fine...nothing over the top These also have a Crepe shop (I forget the name) that serves from 4 - 11 pm and it is wonderful. Casino - small but fine - BRING AMERICAN $$ if you like to gamble - it was impossible to get US dollars at the resort and you don't want to get paid in pesos - you just cannot get rid of them Disco - 9pm - ???? (around 2 ish) lots of fun Nightly show - 10 pm - good dancers, lots of silly stuff very fun Sports - too windy to sail or windsurf, kayaking was great, snorkeling ($20 deposit required for equipment per person) on par for the area (reef snorkeling requires an additional purchase to go by boat as it's dangerous to swim out that far - too rough!, no pedal boats - Bocce Ball on the beach, volleyball - Sports were just fine for the moderately active.... ... We would definitely go back again!!!! actually we would like to leave tomorrow :) :) :) Talk to you soon, Best, L.K. |
